Portrait of winemakers #11

Introduce yourself briefly
My name is Guillaume Crozet. I’m 37 years old, married, with two children. I’ve been a winemaker since 2000. I live and work in Quincié-en-Beaujolais, where I run a 3-hectare vineyard producing the Beaujolais-Villages appellation. I also have a 3-hectare vineyard in Saint Lager producing Côtes-de-Brouilly.

How did you become winemaker ?
It was a question of circumstances. My parents divorced when I was 12 and the family’s land was split into two. I started working to support my mother. To begin with I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, but I started to enjoy working with the vines over time. Although becoming a winemaker wasn’t my childhood dream, I have no regrets about my choice today. I thoroughly enjoy working alone, outdoors, and in contact with nature.

What makes you proud of your job?
Growing the best possible grapes to produce the best wine there is. I’m proud of my vineyard. The better it looks, the prouder I am. I’m really happy with the 2016 harvest. We worked hard all year and it really paid off.

What are your passions outside of your job?
I love hunting around Quincié and Ain. During the peak season, especially November, I sometimes spend up to three days a week hunting. I also like spending time with my friends and my dogs, and admiring the many wonders of nature.
